This month at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, a group of undergraduates are getting a taste of serious barbecue studies. David Alvis, an associate professor of government, and Eric Nash, the offensive line coach for the school's football team, have paired up to teach an undergraduate course on barbecue. It's part of Wofford's "Interim," a one-month mini semester during which students take one single-subject class on a variety of subjects designed to expand the usual academic boundaries.

The students are delving into the history of barbecue, exploring some of the Carolina's top barbecue restaurants, and even learning how to cook barbecue. It all leads up to cook-off with their fellow students at a local brewery.

No word yet on whether Wofford will be adding a B.A. in Barbecue to their undergraduate degree program, but we've got our fingers crossed.
